Aligera la carga
En esta vigilia de la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, comencé el día reflexionando sobre Juan Diego bajando de la montaña con el señal, la prueba para el Obispo de que el mensaje de la Virgen era un mensaje de Dios. La otra historia de una persona que baja de una montaña con un mensaje de Dios, es Moisés cargando dos tablas de piedra, dando a la gente la obligación de vivir una vida santa y moral. La imagen de Moisés cargando pesadas tablas de piedra y Juan Diego trayendo un ramo de flores al Obispo me hizo reír al principio, pero también bastante alegre como mensaje para el mundo de hoy. Un mensaje para nuestro mundo de hoy es aliviar las cargas de aquellos con quienes nos encontramos.
La historia de Juan Diego bajando de la montaña contada en el Nican Mopohua dice que “él viene disfrutando del aroma de las diversas preciosas flores” que llevaba en su tilma. Con cada paso, tomó el olor de la santidad y marcó su alma. A menudo uso esta imagen al hablar con los candidatos a la Confirmación de que el Espíritu Santo infunde en nosotros no solo la marca del sacramento de la Confirmación, sino que nos da la gracia de vivir en relación con lo divino en todo lo que hacemos.
Jesús dijo: “Mi yugo es fácil y ligera mi carga”. (Mt: 11:30) La imagen de Juan Diego bajando de la montaña con un mensaje de Dios es fresca, llena de color, refrescante y nos llama a la belleza y la alegría. Dejemos que la esperanza brille en nosotros incluso en los momentos más difíciles. Viva Juan Diego. Viva la Virgen.
Lighten the Burden
On the vigil of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I began the day reflecting on Juan Diego coming down from the mountain carrying the sign, the proof for the Bishop that his message from the Virgin was a message from God. The other story of a person coming down from a mountain with a message from God, is Moses carrying two stone tablets, giving people obligations for living a holy and moral life. The image of Moses carrying heavy stone tablets and Juan Diego bring a bunch of flowers to the Bishop made me laugh at first, but also rather joyful as a message for the world today. A message for our world today is to lighten the burdens of those whom we meet.
The story of Juan Diego coming down the mountain told in the Nican Mopohua says that he was filled with delight in the aroma of the flowers that he carried in his tilma. With each step he took in the odor of holiness and it marked his soul. I often use this image in speaking with Confirmation candidates that the Holy Spirit infuses within us not only the mark of the sacrament of Confirmation, but gives us the grace to live in relationship with the divine in all that we do.
Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mt: 11:30) The image of Juan Diego, coming down the mountain with a message from God is fresh, full of color, refreshing and calls us to peach and joy. May we let hope shine in us even in the most difficult times. Viva Juan Diego. Viva la Virgen.
