Preparándose para la alegría de la Pascua
Hoy es Mardi Gras, pero este año lo celebramos con las restricciones de COVID. En un momento de tristeza y crisis, comenzamos nuestra celebración de Cuaresma. Habrá cambios en nuestra experiencia normal de Cuaresma. Los directivos de la Iglesia sobre la distribución de cenizas nos invitan a reconsiderar el significado de la Cuaresma en nuestra propia vida.
Si bien las celebraciones de Mardi Gras se reducen de muchas maneras, la imagen de bailarines folclóricos en una fiesta en México es una buena manera de recordar que la Cuaresma es una celebración de fe. Cada vez que experimentamos una crisis, es una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre el verdadero significado de la fe. En la época del Concilio Vaticano II, los padres del Concilio redactaron la Constitución pastoral sobre la Iglesia en el mundo moderno. Se titula en latín, Gaudium et spes. Que la Iglesia sea un signo para el mundo de la alegría y la esperanza. Oro para que en este tiempo de COVID, podamos realizar el gozo y la esperanza de nuestro camino de Cuaresma.
Preparing for the Joy of Easter
Today is Mardi Gras, but this year, we celebrate it with the restrictions of COVID. In a time of sadness and crisis, we begin our Lenten journey. There will be changes in our normal experience of Lent. The directives of the Church on the distribution of ashes invites us to reconsider the meaning of Lent in our own personal lives.
While celebrations of Mardi Gras are curtailed in so many ways, the picture of folkloric dancers at a fiesta in Mexico are a good way to remember that Lent is a celebration of faith. Every time we experience a crisis in our lives, it is an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of faith. At the time of the Second Vatican Council, the fathers of the Council wrote the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World. It is titled in Latin, Gaudium et spes. It calls on the Church to be a sign for the world of Joy and Hope. I pray that in this time of COVID, we may realize the Joy and Hope of our Lenten journey.
Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
