How can we help?: Witnesses of the Redeemer to a Wounded World – Testigos del Redentor a un mundo herido

Witnesses of the Redeemer to a Wounded World

In our lives as members of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, every six years our leadership considers a theme for our ministry in the Church. The theme for this sexennial is “Witnesses of the Redeemer in solidarity for mission to a wounded world.” We live in an obviously wounded world: there is instability in the world causing the greatest migration of peoples in world history. These migrations of people are caused by wars, incredible violence in many places, global warming, natural disasters, a worldwide pandemic, misinformation, racism, and the breakdown of political and religious foundations.

This theme is timely and frustrating. We struggle to find ways through such great challenges in the midst of a decline in priestly and religious vocations. The past year of the world enduring a pandemic challenges the ordinary ministry of Church leaders to face extraordinary challenges. People of good will need to balance traditional ways of ministry with new ways of ministry. Our wounded world needs attention, and none of us can solve the world’s problems alone.

The question, “How can I help?” calls for more than prayer and money. We all need an awakening to the challenges, a confidence that we can do better, and a willingness to do our part. We need to walk together in solidarity. May we all strive to be “witnesses of the Redeemer to a wounded world.”

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
