Un nuevo normal
Me mudé a Kansas City, MO en enero. Los Kansas City Chiefs se están preparando para su defensa del Super Bowl. Hay cosas similares a las del año pasado para una ciudad que se preparó para su primer Super Bowl en cincuenta años. Hay entusiasmo sobre su tema, “Run it back”. Sin embargo, nuestro mundo es diferente este año. El año pasado hubo indicios de que comenzaba una crisis en China que tenía un interés menor en el resto del mundo. No teníamos idea de cuánto iba a cambiar en nuestra vida.
En marzo llegó COVID19 a los Estados Unidos. La desinformación y los pasos menores para frenar una pandemia comenzaron a tomar forma. No necesito reflexionar sobre el dolor, la confusión y los cambios que se produjeron. Las memorias se mantienen por sí mismos, pero hoy, avanzamos mientras las vacunas buscan restaurar la calma en un mundo atribulado. El mundo político sigue temblando. Muchos quieren volver a la “normalidad”, sea lo que sea lo que signifique.
Este año, nuestros blogs han considerado el Año Nuevo como la búsqueda de nuevas formas de vivir con esperanza y fe. Un segundo tema reflexionó sobre la evangelización considerada en el Concilio Vaticano II, una Nueva Evangelización propuesta por el Papa Pablo VI, el Papa Juan Pablo II y el Papa Francisco. Durante las últimas dos semanas, escribí sobre hacer un peregrinaje de esperanza en un peregrinaje virtual al santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rosario en Talpa de Allende, Jalisco.
Antes de comenzar las reflexiones para la Cuaresma, quiero considerar prepararnos para una “nueva normalidad”. Después de casi un año de vivir las experiencias de una pandemia, es tiempo de restaurar la esperanza y la fe en nuestras vidas. No deberíamos esperar que las cosas sean “como eran”. No podemos restaurar las pérdidas de vida, salud, riqueza y fe en un instante. Habrá un momento en que podremos reunirnos una vez más y visitar a amigos y seres queridos. Pero estaremos estableciendo una “nueva normalidad”. Que Dios nos bendiga en este esfuerzo.
A new normal
I moved to Kansas City, MO in January. The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their defense of the Super Bowl. There are some things similar to last year for a city that prepared for its first Super Bowl in fifty years. There is excitement about their theme, “Run it back.” Yet, our world is much different this year. Last year there were signs of a crisis beginning in China that held minor interest in the rest of the world. We had no idea how much our lives were about to change.
In March, COVID19 arrived in the United States. Misinformation and minor steps to curb a pandemic began taking shape. I do not need to reflect on the pain, grief and the changes that took place. The records stand for themselves, but today, we move forward as vaccines seek to restore calm to a troubled world. The political world is still shaking. Many want a return to “normal”, whatever than may mean.
This year, our blogs have considered the New Year as seeking new ways to live in hope and faith. A second theme reflected on Evangelization as considered in the Second Vatican Council, a New Evangelization proposed by Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. For the past two weeks, I wrote about making a pilgrimage of hope in a virtual pilgrimage to the shring of Our Lady of the Rosary in Talpa de Allende, Jalisco.
Before beginning reflections for Lent, I want to consider preparing for a “new normal.” After almost one year of living with the experiences of a pandemic, it is time to restore hope and faith in our lives. We should not expect things to be the “way they were.” We cannot restore losses of life, health, wealth and faith in an instant. There will be a time when we may gather once again, and visit friends and loved ones more easily. But we will be establishing a “new normal.” May God bless us in this endeavor.
Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
